About the event

Nishtha Bhargava - PhD at CSIR-IGIB, New Delhi and working at Plaksha University, Mohali
I am a biology researcher-turned science communicator, in love with the mysteries of 'life' on earth, especially the human body, and genetics! Movies and music consume a disproportionate part of my time. I care deeply about mental health and inclusion.
About the talk: Getting under your skin: The biology behind tattoos Tattoos have long been a cultural and personal statement; probably the only ones to live as long as you. But tattoo ink is "foreign" to our bodies, just like germs, dust and pollen that induce immune reactions. Then how does a tattoo remain for life? This talk will uncover the biology behind the permanence of skin tattoos, even dive a bit into the use of tattoos in medicine, while thinking, “can we tattoo our insides?”
