About the event
Sneha Shahi, ATREE: The Empire Floats Back: River Systems and Their Stakeholders My research explores the evolving relationship between rivers and communities amid increasing infrastructure developments like dams and canals. Focusing on the Tamiraparani River basin in Tamil Nadu, the study examines impacts on livelihoods, water governance, and environmental sustainability. Using a mixed-methods approach, it integrates field surveys, interviews, and ecological data to assess changes in river flow, water quality, and biodiversity. Applying a Social-Ecological Systems (SES) framework, it highlights relationships between human and environmental systems. This research aims to inform inclusive and sustainable water governance models, relevant to river management in India and other regions of the global South.
