About the talk: Colors and shapes of light from a peculiar far away star Point your index finger up and extend your thumb to make a small angle between the two fingers. Now rotate your thumb about your index finger. Even if you fix the angle between the index finger and the thumb, the angle seen by you appears to change. A certain kind of light (light which has shape or polarized light) behaves this way which allows us to perceive rotation even if we do not see the rotation. i study this property of light coming from a source outside of our galaxy in radio wavelengths using Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (situated in Pune) to comment why this source is only active for three days every 16 days.
