Sudha Rajamani, IISER Pune : Earth: The cradle of life and the only home that we might ever know. Or, is it? A fundamental question in Astrobiology deals with delineating how life came about on our planet, the “Pale Blue Dot”! In this talk, I will outline our understanding on how the transition from chemistry to biology/non-life to life would have occurred on the early Earth, which also has implications for discerning whether there is life elsewhere in the universe. Carl Sagan once famously said: "Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known." Let’s get together to discuss these profound questions with far reaching implications.
